What is Hobbimate?

Hobbimate is a free app that connects people through shared hobbies. Whether you love tennis, guitar, yoga or board games — Hobbimate helps you find local people who share your passion so you can play, create and connect together.

How do I create an account?

Download the Hobbimate app from the App Store or Google Play, tap "Sign Up", enter your name and email, choose a password and you're in. The whole process takes under two minutes.

Which hobbies are supported?

We currently support 14+ hobbies across categories including Sporty (soccer, tennis, basketball, golf, padel, pickleball, running, hiking and more), Creative, Social, Musical, Mindful and Wintery. New hobbies are added every month based on community requests.

Can I add multiple hobbies to my profile?

Absolutely. You can add as many hobbies as you like to your profile. Each hobby you add helps us surface better connections and local events for you.

How does Hobbimate connect me with people?

Our connecting is based on shared hobbies, location and availability. When you set up your profile and select your hobbies, we surface nearby hobbimates who share those interests. The more detail you add to your profile, the better your connections.

How close do hobbimates need to be?

You can set your own search radius — anywhere from 1km to 100km. We recommend starting with 5–10km for the best balance of choice and convenience.

What if there are no hobbimates near me yet?

Hobbimate is growing fast! If your area is quiet right now, you'll be notified the moment a new hobbimate joins nearby. You can also invite friends directly from the app to grow your local community.

Can I filter hobbimates by skill level?

Yes. Each hobby on your profile has a skill level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced). You can filter your search to find hobbimates at a similar level so sessions are always enjoyable for everyone.

What is Hobbihood?

Hobbihood is your virtual neighbourhood — a live map that shows hobbimates and venues near you. You can see who's active, discover local courts, parks, studios and cafés, check in at venues and get notified when a hobbimate is heading somewhere nearby.

When is Hobbihood launching?

Hobbihood is currently in development and is targeting a launch in September 2026. Sign up on the Hobbihood page to be notified the moment it goes live and receive early access perks.

Will my exact location be shared with other users?

No. Hobbimate never shares your precise GPS coordinates. The map shows your general neighbourhood area only. You have full control over your location visibility in your privacy settings.

How do I check in at a venue?

Once Hobbihood launches, you'll be able to tap any venue on the map and hit "Check In". This lets your connected hobbimates know you're there and opens the door for spontaneous sessions.

Can I suggest a venue to be added to the map?

Yes! Once Hobbihood is live, there will be a "Suggest a Venue" option on the map. Our team reviews all suggestions and adds approved venues within a few days.

What is Hobbimate Central?

Hobbimate Central is your local hobby hub — a place to discover events, join group meetups, climb leaderboards and connect with your hobby community all in one place. Think of it as your personalised hobby dashboard.

What are Group Meetups?

Group Meetups let you join or create sessions for any hobby with multiple people. Whether it's a casual kick-about or a competitive match, you can set the time, location, skill level and number of spots available.

How do leaderboards work?

Leaderboards rank hobbimates in your area by activity — sessions played, connections made and community contributions. They're purely for fun and friendly competition. Your ranking resets monthly so everyone gets a fresh start.

What is the Events Calendar?

The Events Calendar shows all upcoming hobby events near you — from community games to workshops and social sessions. You can RSVP directly in the app and add events to your phone calendar.

What are Teams? When are they launching?

Teams lets you create or join a dedicated crew for your favourite hobby — with recurring sessions, team stats, match history and a dedicated team chat. Teams is coming soon as part of Hobbimate Central. Sign up to be notified at launch.

How do I edit my profile?

Go to your profile tab in the app, tap the edit icon in the top right corner. From there you can update your name, photo, bio, hobbies, skill levels and location preferences.

How do I change my password?

Go to Settings → Account → Change Password. Enter your current password, then your new password twice to confirm. If you've forgotten your password, use the "Forgot Password" link on the login screen.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. You'll be asked to confirm your decision. Deleting your account permanently removes all your data, connections and activity history. This action cannot be undone.

Can I have more than one account?

Each person should have one Hobbimate account. Multiple accounts for the same person are against our community guidelines and may result in both accounts being suspended.

How do I update my location?

Your location is set automatically based on your device's GPS when you first sign up. To update it manually, go to Settings → Location and either allow the app to detect your current location or enter a suburb or postcode.

What notifications will I receive?

You'll receive notifications for new connection requests, messages, event reminders, nearby hobbimate activity (once Hobbihood launches), leaderboard updates and new hobbies added in your categories.

How do I turn off notifications?

Go to Settings → Notifications and toggle off any notification types you don't want. You can also manage push notification permissions in your phone's system settings under the Hobbimate app.

Why am I not receiving notifications?

First check that notifications are enabled in Settings → Notifications inside the app. Then check your phone's system settings to ensure Hobbimate has permission to send push notifications. If the issue persists, try logging out and back in.

How does Hobbimate keep me safe?

Safety is our top priority. All accounts are verified by email. You can report or block any user at any time. Our moderation team reviews reports within 24 hours. We also recommend meeting new hobbimates in public places for your first session.

How do I report or block a user?

Tap on the user's profile, then tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner. Select "Report" to flag inappropriate behaviour or "Block" to prevent them from contacting you. Blocked users cannot see your profile or send you messages.

How is my personal data used?

We use your data only to power the Hobbimate experience — connecting, events and local discovery. We never sell your data to third parties. Read our full Privacy Policy on the website for complete details.

Where can I download Hobbimate?

Hobbimate is available on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). Search "Hobbimate" or visit our Download page for direct links.

What devices are supported?

Hobbimate supports iPhone (iOS 14+) and Android phones (Android 8.0+). We recommend keeping your operating system up to date for the best experience.

The app is crashing — what should I do?

First try closing and reopening the app. If the issue continues, check for an update in the App Store or Google Play. If you're on the latest version and still experiencing crashes, contact us via the form below with your device model and OS version.

How do I update the app?

Updates are delivered automatically if you have auto-updates enabled. To update manually, open the App Store or Google Play, search for Hobbimate and tap "Update" if one is available.
